Momentum towards a local polystyrene policy in Pasadena is growing! On Tuesday 9/16 the City's Environmental Advisory Commission will formally consider the issue as part of the City's draft Zero Waste Plan (ZWP) - see excerpts below.
You can help MOVE things forward, and ensure the City adopts a policy sooner than later (2014-17 is the identified "timeline" in the draft plan), by speaking up when the City's Public Works Department presents the draft ZWP to the Environmental Advisory Commission in City Council Chambers on Tuesday, September 16 at 6 p.m.
Thanks for all you DO!

The Pasadena Public Works Department (PW) just released (excerpts from) their Draft Zero Waste plan.
The key language relative to polystyrene ("styrofoam") is found on page 10:
"Implement product and disposal bans (e.g. polystyrene food packaging)
Objective: Reduce the disposal of reusable, recyclable, organic and other compostable materials at landfills
Approach: The City will support product and disposal bans for environmentally problematic materials by supporting legislation at the State level and implementing local bans and ordinances as appropriate. Building on the success of the local plastic bag ban, an example of another product that could be banned locally is expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) take-out food containers and cups. Examples of direct landfill
disposal bans include C&D debris, food scraps, and yard
trimmings.
Timeframe : 2014 – 2017"
